THE WHOLE STORY

(Read carefully so you understand the complex themes!)
WARNING!!! MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE BELOW!!! IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT GO RENT IT AT BLOCKBUSTER NOW!!!

"Total spent last year: $6,100!"

PART 1: THE GREAT ESCAPE

Okay so basically, Luther Krank (Tim Allen) and his wife Nora (Jamie Lee Curtis) just sent their daughter Blair to the Peace Corps in Peru. Luther does the math and realizes they spent like $6,000 on Christmas last year. He sees a poster for a Caribbean Cruise and gets a genius idea: SKIP CHRISTMAS.

They decide to do a "Total Boycott." No tree. No lights. No fruitcake. COMPLETE SHUTDOWN.

PART 2: THE NEIGHBORHOOD ATTACKS

This is where it gets crazy. The neighbors, led by Vic Frohmeyer (he thinks he's the mayor or something), go nuts. They want the Kranks to put up "Frosty" on their roof to win the street decoration contest.

  • Carolers harass them by singing loudly on their lawn.
  • The newspaper prints an article about them.
  • Luther freezes his driveway so the carolers slip (SO FUNNY LOL).

My favorite part: When Luther goes tanning and meets the priest in the tanning salon. "It's not what it looks like father!!"

PART 3: THE DISASTER

Everything is going great and they are packed for the cruise. THEN... the phone rings.

BLAIR IS COMING HOME!!!

She decided to surprise them with her new fiance Enrique. She thinks they are having their normal Christmas party. She doesn't know about the cruise!! Luther wants to tell her but Nora says NO. They have like 4 hours to set up Christmas from scratch.

!!! ENDING SPOILERS !!!

The Kranks rush around town. Nora fights a lady for a Ham. Luther tries to steal a tree from his neighbor but gets caught by the police. It looks hopeless. They are eating smoked trout instead of Ham.

BUT THEN... Vic Frohmeyer and the neighbors realize what is happening. Even though they were mad, they decide to help. Everyone pitches in to decorate the house and bring food. It shows the true meaning of community!!

PART 4: THE TWIST

The party is a success. Blair is happy. But Luther is sad about his cruise. He sees his neighbors, the Scheels. Beverly Scheel is dying of cancer (sad part). Luther decides to give the cruise tickets to them so they can have a good holiday.

Marty (the umbrella salesman who was actually Santa Claus the whole time???) picks up the Scheels in his VW Bug. Luther and Nora stay home and enjoy the snow.
